Ads that pay! Michelle Reed, Graphic Designer, Majestik Creations As far as your advertising goes, do you do big ads once or twice or smaller ads continuously over time? The key to good PAID advertising on a shoestring budget is to do many small ads over time. Flood the consumers mind day after day, week after week, month after month, but it doesn't have to be elaborate. People retain ads in about 3 seconds. So you have 3 seconds to capture their attention per ad. Create "Top of Mind Awareness"! Let's take a newspaper ad for example. If you have $300 budgeted for a month's worth of ads in the newspaper, and you have a choice of running 1 ad a week that is large in size, maybe color and on a main page, OR you have a choice of running a much smaller ad 5 days a week for a month and it is very basic, maybe a logo and contact info with a very short description. Both equal $300 a month each. Which one would you pick? You would want to pick the smaller ad that runs continuously. Why? Simple math my friends. You take that 3 seconds per ad times 4 with your weekly ads. Now take those 3 seconds times 5 days/wk ads. Which is greater? The secret is that people don't really pay attention in those brief 3 seconds, but it is still presented in their brain. The more they see the ad over time, the better the chance they have to retain and retrieve the information of your ad. The more often they are exposed to your ads, the better they become familiar with your company. Thus creating "Top of Mind Awareness". Over time, you will see that with good planning and patience, your ads will pay for themselves.
